Calling all Tulle Lovers!

Ready to kick up your bow making a notch and add some flare to hair accessories, tutus, pettis and more!  Hold on to your seats we have an awesome tutorial for you!

My friend and fellow crafter Brooke Douglas created a fantastic tutorial for Tulle Puffs!  I am so excited to share this tutorial with you.

These puffs can be used in so many ways: attach to alligator clips, skinny headbands, foe headbands, metal headbands, satin headbands, flare for tutus and pettis, imagine them on flip-flops!  Oh my goodness can you tell I love these little things!

Now after I have your creative mind rolling think about this:  Head to toe decked out for the 4th of July in all matching accessories. Red, Royal, and White as the color theme: Tutu, Appliqued Tank Top, Flip Flips with a tulle puff, and a matching Tulle Puff hair accessory of your choice.  Then kick it up a notching with BNBW printed 4th of July/Patriotic Ribbon Prints mixed in the tutu, wrapped on the flip flips, sewn on as accents to the matching tank!  AKKK!  Makes me want to go craft!  Find all of your supplies here: Bows~N~Bottlecaps Wholesale

Here is Dixie Diva’s Crafty Treasures by Amy Lookabill’s Crayon Roll Up Tutorial for all of you to get crafting with!

WHAT YOU NEED:
FABRIC (I USED A BANDANA FOR THIS ONE)
FUSIBLE WEBBING
PONY O

MATCHING THREAD SEWING MACHINE RULER OR MEASURING TAPE

FABRIC PEN
CRAYONS
MEASURE AND CUT: 3 PIECES OF FABRIC 13 ½” X 5″ 1 PIECE FUSIBLE WEBBING SAME SIZE
IRON ON THE FUSIBLE WEBBING TO THE WRONG SIDE OF 1 OF THE 3 PIECES OF FABRIC

TAKE THE 2nd PIECE OF FABRIC, FOLD IN HALF AND IRON

PIN THIS PIECE TO THE 1ST PIECE ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF FABRIC. ALIGN THE OPEN EDGE OF 2ND PIECE WITH THE BOTTOM OF 1ST PIECE. JUST PIN ON EACH END TO HOLD IN PLACE.

NEXT YOU WILL BEGIN MARKING YOUR LINES. USE A WATER SOLUABLE FABRIC PEN. START BY MAKING YOUR FIRST LINE IN THE MIDDLE, WHICH WILL BE AT 6 ¾”.

THEN MAKE A LINE EVERY INCH AFTER THAT. YOU SHOULD HAVE A TOTAL OF 13 LINES.

YOU ARE ONLY MAKING THE LINES ON THE FOLDED PIECE OF FABRIC.

NEXT YOU WILL BEGIN STITCHING EACH LINE, BACKSTITCH AT BEGINNING AND END TO LOCK IN PLACE.

NEXT, TAKE THE PONY O AND ALIGN IT JUST ABOVE THE FOLDED PIECE, FACING IN TOWARDS THE FABRIC. STITCH OVER IT, CLOSE TO THE EDGE. I DID A ZIG ZAG STITCH AND WENT BACK AND FORTH SEVERAL TIMES.
NEXT TAKE THE 3RD PIECE OF FABRIC AND PLACE IT OVER THE 1ST 2 PIECES, RIGHT SIDES TOGETHER.

STITCH AROUND ALL SIDES, LEAVING ABOUT A 2″ OPENING ALONG THE TOP EDGE.

CLIP THE CORNERS, MAKING SURE NOT TO CUT THROUGH THE STITCHING.

START TURNING RIGHT SIDE OUT THROUGH THE OPENING. YOU CAN USE A BLUNT PENCIL, OR I USED A CROCHET HOOK, TO PUSH THE EDGES OUT.

IRON FLAT ALL THE WAY AROUND AND FOLD IN THE OPEN EDGE.
(NOTE-I SPRAYED WATER FROM MY IRON OVER THE MARKINGS FIRST TO REMOVE THEM )

STITCH ALL THE WAY AROUND, MAKING SURE TO CLOSE UP THE OPENING.

INSERT CRAYONS, ROLL AND SECURE WITH PONY O
And that’s it!  But be careful, these can be rather addictive.  Add crayons, a coloring book, and a matching bag (look for that to come) and you’ve got the perfect inexpensive birthday gift.  When school supplies are first put out, I buy up a bunch of the 19 cent boxes and have them on hand to fill one with.

Now on with our featured Tutorial!

Boutique Style Bow

Supplies Finished 3″ twisted boutique bow Choice of ribbon (2 each of 3) for spikes; at 5″ each Choice of ribbon (2) for surround loops; one at 23″ and 22 3/4″ Your choice of center and harware Glue gun and sticks, needle and thread, straight pin, sissors, heat sealing tool/lighter

Prep work: Cut and seal your spikes, I chose V style Make your 3″ tbb Line your alligator clip Make your center knot, and/or bow center (bottle cap, marabou etc)

***** Note: For larger bows you will need to adjust sizes/measurements****

Take your ribbon for surround loops and fold in quarters…mark each crease Do this to both pieces

Work with the longer end of ribbon always to your right… Bring end around and place on top of your first mark X

You may want to place under your bow to get a better idea on size…when making larger bows before cutting your loops

After first loop is secured bring the long end around towards first loop * think reverse awareness* bring all the way down until your mark meets side by side with first loop.

Secure with a dab of hot glue, make sure they don’t overlap! Continue bring all your marks to center for remaining loops, remembering to go left

Following pictures show this process step by step.

Your loops should now look like so ….repeat for your second set

Place glue in center of larger set of loops, and center smaller ones on top

Spikes: I like to lay mine out to get an idea of placement. Once your happy with where they are simply “un-fan” until they are stacked on top of one another, place a pin in center and re-fan

Now take your needle and thread, starting from underneath make three stiches about quarter inch apart and quarter inch long. Now pull your thread tight “bunching” your spikes together. Wrap your thread around a time or two and secure.

Now gather all of the guts of the bow and prepare to put it all together.

Simply glue each section together, don’t be scared to use a lot of glue, won’t hurt a thing!

Stack your bow together, first spikes, loops, dab of glue, and then your tbb.

Add the center of your choice, knot, bottle cap, disc it, rhinestone, feathers, feltie, be creative!!! Have fun the best part is picking out the color combinations and see it all come together!

This tut was created by Kara Jordan. You may use it for personal use only. You may not alter, sell, transfer, or change this tut in any way without the written permission of Kara.
